energy (physics paper help)?

advantages and disadvantages of wind energy

Ok. I’m really sick but I need to finish this paper. I’ve searched the web, books, everywhere and i’m clueless as to where to find these answers. Can someone PLEASE help me. It would be greatly appreciated.

The questions are:

Describe the basic operation of an electric generator (including energy conversions that take place).

Describe the energy sources that can be used to provide energy for an electric generator in a power plant. (must include renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy.)

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of choosing wind as the source of energy.

Thanks so much if you can help me!! I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to figure out the last question though.

An electrical generator uses mechanical energy to turn the center part, the armature, which is a lot of coils of wire. The armature is in a strong magnetic field, and electric current and voltage is produced. The more electrical power produced, the harder the generator is to turn, and more input energy is required. The input energy can come from a steam turbine, which gets its energy from burning fuel, which can be traced back to fossils, which got their energy from the sun.

Non renewable energy resources include fossil fuels, that is coal and oil, and nuclear energy. Renewable energy sources include hydro electric, wind, Geo thermal, solar, and bio-mass. There is consideration being given to using ocean waves to operate a generator.

All the sources of energy have a down side. With wind power, problems include: Bird kill, NIMBY*, and cost. An interesting new development in England, where there is a big push for off shore wind mills, is that the windmills threaten national security due to the radar shadow that would allow enemy aircraft to sneak in behind the windmills.

look on the source esp. the bottom where there are pdf’s of the patents of different electric generators
