What to Look for When Building Your Own Wind Turbine

Before we get into the technicalities of building a wind turbine, something you should know about DIY wind power is that although it has become a realistic and reasonable source of energy, it is really not efficient enough on a small scale size to compete with more traditional electricity sources. It can be rather strenuous and expensive to construct, but if it is something you really wawind powerinvolved in, make sure you know what you are doing, especially when dealing with wires in your home.

There are several things you have to look out for when you are considering building a wind power turbine, the first being that most residential areas are not windy enough for wind power. The trees and other obstructions diffuse the force of the wind and don’t serve as good surroundings for a turbine. An alternative to this would be to build your wind power turbine on an extremely tall tower, but one would have to consider how his neighbors felt about it first.

Another thing that is important is the equipment you want to use in your turbine.

Primarily, what size you want to make your turbine. And because your blades need to be large in proportion to the energy it is going to put out, the blades need to be about 5 meters long in order to power a modern sized home in a good site (windy enough for the turbine to be efficient). Luckily, you can build these blades by carving wood, or if you aren’t into the labor intensive route, you could easily buy the blades as well. Now, to harness this energy, you need a generator. And for DIY wind power, the best choice would probably be a car alternator.

It obviously will have to be tweaked or modified slightly to up the RPM, 2,000 is about enough, but it will probably be the hardest part of the project. The generator is the core part of building wind power turbines and it can be the thing that separates you from success and failure.

The last thing you have to do is to go out and build it. But a last bit of advice would be to be careful in what you do, and make sure you always know what you are doing. Don’t only put have your energy into this, if you put a lot of effort into it, it will yield great possibilities.

Homebuilt Wind Generator Power – a Method That Could Save You Money

These days, more and more alternative energy sources are being used each and every day. With the gas crisis and other environmental issues arising, we need to look into alternative methods for energy. Some of these alternative methods have been around for some time, proving themselves and showing people that the energy they provide is something people can rely on. The two main sources are wind and solar energy. For this article, I’m going to touch more on wind energy, and how you can build your own wind generator to power small appliances around your home!

Using a homebuilt wind generator for power is one of the ways you can help contribute to conserving energy. Not only that, but building one of these machines can be cost-effective, and fun to do! The supplies required to build one of these can be found at your local hardware store. Generally, you can get supplies for less than $200. If you really wanted to save some extra cash AND help save the earth, you could opt to find recycled parts. You can easily find steel tubing and other materials needs at a local recycling center. Using recycled parts is a big way to show that you are really in with the “green movement”.

Lastly, in order to build an effective wind generator, you need a great set of instructions, or a detailed guide to follow along with. You really can’t build one of these yourself without this, unless you know someone who builds wind generators for a living. A great set of instructions will be the difference in whether your machine will perform great or be a flop.

So, now you are aware of what it takes to make your own wind generator. If you’re into alternative energy, consider building one and help save the earth. You never know – You’re skills might come in handy some day when alternative energy is used all over the world!

Wind Turbines for Homes – True Facts

Even if it’s true that getting energy from the local power company’s grid is easier than building one of those wind turbines for homes, the benefit comes when you don’t have to pay for a big electric bill, while also becoming more energy independent. With the power driven by wind turbines for homes you can enjoy the advantages of all the modern electrically driven lifestyle without even thinking about the monetary consequences.

I dare to say that, if you build yourself one of those wind turbines for homes, using one the best guides available, you could get disconected completely from the grid.

Electric bills and fuel bills are rising steadily—but the cost of building wind turbines for homes to get energy is zero, and the cost of installing and hooking up a turbine is steadily coming down as demand rises and more commercial success is realized by various companies producing the turbines and researching technologies to make them ever more efficient.

In addition, people are moving away from the traditional power grids and the fossil fuels for personal reasons including desire for greater independence, the desire to live remotely or rurally without having to “go primitive”, political concerns such as fears of terrorist strikes on oil fields or power grids, or concerns about the environment.

This motivation to get away from the traditional energy sources is the same one that causes people to seek the power of the wind for their energy, giving more business opportunities to profit from wind turbine production and maintenance, which drives their costs down for the consumers.

In many parts of the world, homeowners who remain on the grid but who still choose to use wind turbines for homes are eligible for rebates or tax breaks from governments that end up paying for as much as 50% of their total “green” energy systems’ costs.

There is a lot of energy that we can harness if we only seek to research and develop the technologies needed to do so. We can get away from the old electrical grid by using wind turbines for homes as an alternative energy source.

When Wind And Water Pay Your Home A Visit

We all know what it is like to get hunkered down in the house when there is a strong storm coming, but not everyone has had the pleasure of experiencing what it is like to evacuate our house in a hurricane or tropical storm warning. The past few years some of our coastal communities have really had more than their fair share of this kind of terrible weather where not only the strong wind comes calling, but the water has made its way in as well.

When a home is hit doubly hard because of wind and water damage, it can take twice as long to get the damage repaired and get a home up and running again. The cost can be astronomical when the damage is severe and when a home owner is caught without insurance or just had no flood coverage it can ruin them financially trying to save their house. Most people do carry coverage that takes care of most things, but flood coverage that pays for natural disaster flooding usually has to be purchased separately.

Depending on how much and what kind of destruction a home has done to it, there might be many things that a home owner can do themselves to get the ball rolling. The more of the renovating and repairing they can do, the less the insurance company will have to pay to have done for them. Things like removing their own belongings or tearing out the damaged things are shores that have to be done, but might not require any special training or equipment. It is essential that a home be inspected when there has been damage to first make sure that it is safe to go into before anyone starts doing anything.

Once it has been determined that you can go in and begin working, the first thing to do is of course, make sure there is no power or water on, which there probably will not be, but you need to be positive. The inspector can probably determine this for you beforehand. Then you can begin dragging out damaged items. If there is an upstairs that has not been damaged, items with no damage might be put there. You might need a dumpster or trailer to put the damaged items you will be throwing away on. Keep recycling in mind whenever you can.

Before you rip out your carpets or hardwood floors, you probably should consult a water damage professional to be sure they can not be salvaged first. When you have been flooded because of a plumbing break this is often a possibility, but if a natural disaster flood is the cause of your damage, these floors could be extremely contaminated and will likely need to be replaced. Removing the damaged items and taking care of your own personal belongings is a couple of ways that you might save some money doing these things your self.

Go green with your home energy supplies

Consumers are all too aware of the global warming issue, and many of us are seeking ways to reduce our carbon footprints. Now green energy has arrived, we can all do our bit to ensure that our household gas and electricity supplies come from greener sources, and here we explain how.

Green energy is really just another term for sources of energy that are sustainable and environmentally-friendly. There are several green energy sources available to us now, and at least 4.9 per cent of the energy supplied by gas and electricity companies now has to be provided by at least one of these green energy sources.

1. Solar power transforms the energy we receive from the sun into power for our homes, while wind power harnesses wind energy for the same purpose. We already obtain some of our energy from hydroelectricity, which is when we convert energy in flowing water to electricity. And lastly there is biomass fuel, where natural materials are burnt to provide energy for households.

2. We can all help to increase the level of green energy produced by signing up to the green tariff options now available from the majority of energy companies. There are usually two tariffs to choose from, and either one will lead to an increase in green power.

3. The two forms of eco-friendly energy tariffs that tend to be available are green fund, and green supply. Green fund tariff types use the extra money that you pay for this tariff to invest in sustainable power sources. Green supply tariffs mean that for every unit of power you use, a unit of green energy is produced.

4. Environmentally-friendly energies are attractive to us as they do not produce any damaging waste, unlike the burning of fossil fuels which emits toxic CO2. Using sustainable sources of energy will also help to provide stability as stocks of green energy will never run out, unlike oil, coal and gas. This would mean an end to the energy price rises and crashes we see today.

5. You do not need any fancy equipment or to have anything installed in order to change to a green tariff. It is as easy as swapping to any other gas or electricity rate. Simply call your gas and electricity company to see if they have an environmentally-friendly rate that you can switch to, or use the internet to find a range of energy companies that offer this green energy rates.

Green energy rates can be more expensive, so if you cannot afford this rate increase, what can you do? Take a look at gas and electricity company websites, and see where they source their power from. By law, all energy companies must now make this information available to you, so use this power to find a company that is more environmentally-conscious.

British Gas can service all of your gas, electric and central heating boilers requirements.

Solar Power Energy at Home – Save Thousands

There are three feasible energy providers other than crude oil and coal. They are the wind, sun(solar power), and nuclear plant.

The solar energy is a free source of electricity. We basically receive sunlight everyday so it is wise to put sunlight into good use. Unlike gasoline, solar energy does not produce a by-product that harms the environment. The solar energy will let you save more, do more and conserve more. You can have a solar generator at your own home right now.

Save More

Installing solar panels at your house may be a little expensive at first. But once you get to run the equipment, you will be able to spend a little or no money in the next months.

Do more

Since the electricity you receive is from the sun, you have the opportunity to use more electricity at lesser cost. This ensures productivity.

Solar energy at home allows you to make a solar cooker. A solar cooker basically cooks food without the need of fuel. The small container can cook meals for up to 5 people. You can boil, roast, bake, and even fry in it. Food may take time to cook in the solar cooker but given that it saves me on the fuel, I’d rather catch the opportunity.

Solar home lighting allows you to store solar energy for later use. The solar panels have cells that trap the energy and are readily utilized when you need a light.

During those cold nights, you might just want to avail of the solar heating system. Today’s solar heating panels are aesthetically pleasing so you can decorate your house with it without looking like a laboratory. It is a bit expensive but your investment will return in 3 to 4 years and you will enjoy a free hot bath after that.

Conserve More

By using solar energy, you will help in preserving the non renewable sources of energy. You also save the environment from pollution caused by burning of fuel. It’s time to move today while it is not yet too late.

DIY Wind Power: a Pro and a Con

The PRO: Supply and Maintenance

The good thing about DIY wind power is that it has very marginal cost. The fuel consumption is tolerable and the maintenance cost is also ideal. According to scientists, the wind power that we can harness form the atmosphere is a lot greater than what the world can consume. Accordingly, the wind power available is five times more than the world consumption. However, there has to be a practical limit as to the amount to be used. For now, studies are being done how wind power will impact the atmosphere if we harness it in global scale.

The CON: Battery Rewiring

Harnessing wind power does not mean it’s all just good times since you have free electricity. A great deal of effort is needed in the maintenance of your tools. Many of the materials sold in the market now are mostly do-it-yourself or DIY. DIY wind power means you will install the wind turbines and you will also need to maintain the batteries and all that. The most common problem that wind power users encounter is rewiring the batteries. This is a hassle if you are unsure what to do but it is just a breeze if you know the steps to take.

A battery that can produce 0-300 volts normally has 42 coils around the edge of the stator.  There are two ends to this wiring system and DIY wind power enthusiasts like you will observe that at one end, there are three wires joined together whereas for the other end, the three wires are separate. Each wire is connectedwind powerls and these 14 coils send different current flows in different intervals.  A majority of DIY wind power users prefer 23 or 24 volts. In this case, you will have 3 sets of 14 coils. Each coil will be able to produce about 212 volts of power. At full speed, you should be able to have 300 volts maximum with a 12 volt system.
