Homebuilt wind turbine is fast becoming a popular way to create electricity.  It’s a clean, renewable source of power that is fairly easy to create.  It makes a lot of power and the generators often last decades.  Wind power is also popular because the generators can be made at home and can service one house or many homes, which means that people can cut their reliance on expensive power companies.

Home built wind turbine used to only be available in places with high wind speeds and a lot of space for the turbines, but that is changing as technology gets sleeker, smaller, and more efficient.  Now, you can have a wind turbine generator in your own backyard and use it to recharge solar batteries or to tide you through harsh winter winds with no sunlight to utilize your solar panels with.  Wind power can be used to power up your home on a cloudy day or used to store power in case of an emergency.  Although wind generators still cannot be solely used as a power source, being as there are very few places in the world with constant wind, they do make an excellent back up for other green sources of power like sunlight.

Wind generator turbines can be built at home if you are so inclined, or you can have a company build them for you.  They are generally composed of a tower with the blades to catch the wind.  The diameter of the blades determines how much power you’ll be able to get from the wind and thus how much you’ll be able to generate.  For a single household, the turbine does not have to be massive which makes it fairly straightforward to construct.

Wind generators combined with solar panels do make for good green energy; however, they are not a cheap source of energy as the batteries alone cost a great deal of money, as well as the materials to create the generator in the first place.  You’ll want to think very carefully about the reasons for going with wind power in the first place and whether you want to unhook yourself from the power grid of larger companies or not.  There is no such thing as a Homebuilt wind turbine that will be able to power all of your needs all of the time; it is best paired with another source of power and for this to happen, you may find it more economical to remain on the grid and use your wind generator to reduce the cost of your power monthly, not get rid of it altogether.

Home built wind turbines are growing in popularity though and the fact that many kits can be assembled at home appeals to a lot of people.  It’s a good way to get clean, renewable power to bolster other supplies of electricity, such as sun or simply power you get from a company.  If you think that wind power may be the way to go, it’s time to do a bit of research and start building a wind generator turbine of your own.
