Homemade Wind Power – Easy To Do

I have great news if you’ve been thinking about using wind power to save you money on your electric bills, homemade wind power is a reality.  You can do it yourself and it won’t cost you much.

Harnessing the wind will necessitate you using a wind turbine.  This converts wind energy into electricity which is then stored, or sent right into the grid for immediate use.

You shouldn’t buy your turbine unless you have a lot of money since they are very expensive and it will take you a long time to get that money back.  You are much better off building your own, it’s a fraction of the cost yet you’ll still get a lot of savings on your electric bills.

Building your own turbine will cost about $195, of course that can vary somewhat depending on where you live, but that’s a good estimate.

Where you live is another thing to keep in mind before you start building your turbine, you want to make sure you have an open space so the wind has an unrestricted route to the turbine.

If you have a lot of trees or big buildings close to you you will need to mount your turbine on the roof or on a high column. Anywhere that it can have  an open area and get plenty of wind.

A turbine will generate about 60% of the electricity your house needs and that will save you upwards of 80% on your utility bills.

When you consider how cheap it is wind powert=”_blank” title=”Wind Power”>to build a wind turbine, how much you’ll save on your bills, and the satisfaction of knowing you’re not giving so much of your money to the utility company, homemade wind power just makes a lot of sense.

It’s not everyday that you find  something that is cheap, easy, and will also save you money!

The Easy and Inexpensive Way to Build Wind Power Turbines

People around the world are realizing the importance of clean sources of energy such as wind and solar power. Building wind power turbines has become a lot easier nowadays. In fact one need not be a qualified engineer to build one. Man has been using wind power for several centuries now, though it is only recently due to the rising levels of pollution that interest has been revived in them. Windmills and wind turbines can be seen making a comeback in most parts of the world for this reason.

It is always preferable that you do a bit of research on the various parts that make up wind power turbines, before you try your hand at making one. To start off the process you must first of all gather all the equipment that you would need. Construction material is the next thing that you need to decide on. Although both wood and aluminum are used to make windmills, these days aluminum is the preferred material, since it is considered more durable.

The next thing that you need to carefully plan is the location of the turbine. You must make sure that you install it in a place where there is ample open space. Remember, even the best turbine ever built will not be of any use if there were to be insufficient wind flow.  The location also should be such that there is unobstructed access to wind current for the free rotation of the blades.

Homemade wind power turbines offer you a great way to save money on energy bills, as well as contribute your might towards a greener world. You can save even up to 80 percent on your energy bills, by using wind power turbines in your home.

DIY Wind Power Made Easy

In light of the fact that you found this article you are no doubt serious about employing DIY wind power to provide electricity for your home. The wind is a natural occurring phenomena which is actually created by the sun. residential wind turbines have become incredibly popular over the past decade around the world and will continue to rise in popularity as we now complete the first decade of the 21st century.

Residential wind power and solar panels are on the verge of becoming common sites for homes throughout the world. As people become more aware of the potential for these sources of renewable energy for the electricity they can create, they are simultaneously learning that these forms of natural energy generation also reduce our carbon footprint.

DIY wind power and How it Works

Wind power is captured by windmills or turbines, creating energy that is stored in batteries. The turning of the blade harnesses the energy of the wind and that then creates electricity. Some people refer to this equipment as windmills, some as turbines, but it is the same thing.

Kinetic energy, or physical energy, is created by the turning of the blades by the wind and gathered into a generator. The more wind you have, the faster the blades are able to turn, the more energy you can create. A home wind generator stores this wind created energy in a battery which then becomes the source of the electrical power for the home.

DIY Wind Power Will Save You Money

The short answer is yes, absolutely! How much money you\’re going to save the plans on quite a few variables including how large your wind power generator is, how much wind you get and how efficiently you capture it. It is absolutely possible to save a substantial amount of money on your electric bill.

DIY wind power systems are very inexpensive to build. For under $200 in materials you can buy everything you need at your local hardware store or large home improvement store. And what makes this project even better is that it is easy to build. Almost anyone can undertake the construction of a home wind power system and do so with success.

How Much Power Will by Home Need

Most homes use on average approximately 100,000 KWH up electricity per year. With that in mind, a wind turbine that creates between 5 to 15 kW should do the trick. Of course, the larger the turbine is, the more energy it will collect from the wind. It is even possible to create enough wind power that you not only completely cover your utility bill but you can also sell any unused electricity back to your power company and make some money from them.

The only down side of homemade wind turbines is that they can be noisy. If properly maintained they are not exceptionally noisy. When the wind blows, the movement over the blades creates a whistling sound. Improperly cared for parts will make extra noise as does any moving machinery. Keeping the properly maintained and oiled is extremely important for minimizing sound. It is also a better option to build your turbine out of PVC rather than wood as wood will not hold up nearly as long.

If you are committed to the idea of generating your own power, DIY wind power is an excellent option. Easy to do, inexpensive to build it is a very doable project for the average homeowner. You will find it to be a very rewarding endeavor both in the short and long run. Save you and your family money and do your part to save our planet. It is a win-win energy option.

Improve Your Home’s Energy Efficiency in 10 Easy Steps

Using less energy is the easiest and quickest way of reducing global warming in the future.

We have put together some simple tips to show how you can cut the amount of energy you use without it costing you a penny, as well as some, low cost actions you can take which will pay for themselves in little or no time.

For instance, did you know that the quickest and most cost effective way of improving your energy efficiency is by installing insulation? Insulation made with recycled glass (glasswool) is particularly environmentally friendly – and insulation requires no maintenance and will provide energy savings year after year, performing as good as the day it was installed. That’s why so much of this site is dedicated to different ways to improve your home’s insulation.

Tips to improve energy efficiency.

1. Turn down your central heating by 1°C It could cut your heating bills by up to 10%. If you feel it’s too cold, just pop on an extra layer of clothing like a T shirt under a shirt or a jumper or cardigan.

2. Don’t leave appliances on standby. How often do you leave the TV on standby when you go to bed? That TV, DVD player, HiFi, video recorder are all munching electricity – so turn them off.

3. Unplug mobile phone chargers. It’s handy to leave your mobile phone charger plugged into the wall, but if its switched on even without the phone attached it will be using electricity.

4. Set your hot water to 60°C. For most people, setting the cylinder thermostat at 60°C/°F is fine for bathing and washing.

5. Don’t overfill your kettle. It’s easy to over fill a kettle, but try and only boil the amount of water you need (Always remember to ensure you boil the minimum amount for the safe use of the kettle – see your kettle’s user guide if in doubt).

6. Turn off lights when you leave the room. Always turn lights off when you leave a room and adjust your curtains or blinds to let in as much light as possible during the day.

7. Use economy mode on the dishwasher and 30°C to wash your clothes. Try and use low temperature programmes, and ensure you wash full loads.

8. Draw the curtains. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows – even in rooms you’re not using.

9. Take a shower not a bath.
Water requires a lot of energy to heat it up, and a typical shower uses just 20% of the hot water a bath uses.

10. Put a plug in it!. Always put the plug in your basin or sink. Leaving hot water taps running with it removed is akin to washing money down the plughole.
