With the costs of fossil fuels continually on the rise and tensions in certain areas of the world, it makes perfect sense for you to consider alternative forms of energy. Renewable green energy is all around us for the taking.

There’s never been a better time to save money and help out the planet as there is right now. One way that you can accomplish both is to cut down on the electricity you buy from your electric company, which you can do by producing your own electricity at home.

A wind turbine is a device that converts the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity. What most homeowners don’t know is that building your own wind turbine is something that’s fairly easy to accomplish with the right set of instructions. The parts you will need will usually only cost around a few hundred dollars and you can get them are your local home improvement store.

Before you run out and purchase a manual, though, you want to make sure that installing a turbine is the best option for your location.

The technology of wind turbines has advanced in recent years, but even a small turbine can take up a lot of room. They’re not perfect for every location and you may need a great deal of cooperation from your neighbors, who might consider your new renewable green energy device an eyesore.

Another factor to consider is how much wind you actually receive. Virtually every place on earth gets wind at some time or another, but you will need a brisk wind and you will need to get it often in order for a turbine to make sense for you.

You will need a location to mount your turbine. They are now small enough so that you can put them right on your roof, but you need to make sure that you don’t have a lot of obstructions that will block the wind such as, tall buildings or trees. If you don’t have an unobstructed area to mount your turbine, using wind as a source of energy may not be the best option for you.

You won’t need to make any changes inside your home to use the energy generated by your turbine. And of course one turbine won’t be enough to generate all the electricity the average household uses, but it can make a dent in your electrical bill and save you money every time the bill comes.

For many people a using the power of the wind is a great way to go, and you might be one of them. If you build it yourself you can save thousands of dollars off the cost of purchase and installation. You can’t expect to get completely ‘off the grid’ with one turbine, but you can realistically expect to save quite a bit of money on your electric bill, and gain some cool bragging rights with your neighbors.

While the technology for using wind power has been with us for thousands of years, the use of this alternative power source for the generation of electricity has never really gone mainstream. Coal and natural gas-fired power plants are efficient and convenient, but they use fossil fuels, and these fuels are definitely finite resources. Wind power is as limitless as the sun and wind.

Wind Power is Coming Around.
Wind is not a common source of energy today but soaring coal, oil and natural gas costs and the negative eco-effects of these conventional fuels have ignited a new interest in alternative renewable energy sources. Along with solar power panels and collectors, windmills can now be seen blossoming in fields across the country and are proving to be a viable source of energy as long as there is a constant enough supply of quality wind.

Are Alternative Energy Sources Reliable?
A wind power generator, as the name implies, is technology that makes electrical energy from air currents. As people who live in windy areas of the U.S. know, wind energy is abundant – and free. But is it reliable enough to provide a constant source of electricity – similar to a modern fossil-fueled power plant? The simple answer – no. Harnessing wind energy can be a great addition to an alternative power generation plan (usually paired with solar), but you should always have an alternative (public utilities) as a back-up for those rare times when there is no wind or sun. Of course, before you consider installing a wind power generator, research is in order to determine if the location for the windmill will get enough wind to make the investment worthwhile.

Physics Is Your Friend.
A wind power generator operates by the theory of Conservation of Energy, or more specifically, kinetic energy. Kinetic energy of the wind or airflow impinges upon the rotor blades of the windmill, then is turned into mechanical energy as the generator is spun. This mechanical energy is converted into electrical power by the generator, to be used immediately, or stored in batteries or capacitors. In the early history of wind power, this rotational energy was used to grind grain and pump water.

Wind Power as a Supplement.
As was mentioned above, it may be totally impractical to live off-grid with alternative energy as the sole sources of power for your home, although there are those who do live completely off-grid. To live completely off-grid, you must be extremely efficient with energy use (and storage), and alway be aware of reserves and future needs. For most alternative energy users, wind power is used in conjunction with other sources of electrical power – solar and grid. During good times, many generate excess power and can sell this excess power back to their utility companies.

Location, Location, Location.
There are a few criteria for placing a windmill on your property. Ideally, your home will sit on a good-sized lot in a relatively roomy rural or near-rural development. The tower height that supports the generator can be critical, and research should be done to determine local building codes. Newer and better technology is coming on-line every day that permits installation of power-generating windmills in ever-smaller locations – always do your research and make sure you’re getting the system for your environment.

Technology Here Now.
Making electrical power from the wind is not a new science, rather it is an continually evolving technology based on actual needs. There’s plenty of information – books and other materials – available now on the topics of alternative power generation. Many new sources of do-it-yourself guides have sprung up lately, and some are of good quality.. With this in mind, always do your research carefully and completely before you commit to any particular system. Then, as you watch the blades of your own wind power generator spin, the satisfaction of knowing you did this yourself (with a little help) can be realized.

I’ve looked at some of the more popular plans on how to build your own windmill.

Wind power has been used for electricity generation in homes for many years in remote areas. With today’s relentless increase in energy prices more and more folk who live in urban areas are looking at wind power as a way of reducing their power bills. It’s been calculated that wind power use in the USA has risen by an estimated 26% percent each year over the last 5 years.

Why should you consider wind power in your home.

#1 Wind power provides energy at a cheaper rate than the average electricity retail price

#2 It consumes no fossil fuels (wind power produces no carbon dioxide emissions or waste products)

#3 It’s pollution free (Wind power does not emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere)

#4 It’s clean (virtually no environmental problems)

#5 It’s inexhaustible, (the winds have and always will be with us)

#6 It’s eco-friendly (wind power doesn’t contribute to global warming or climate change).

7# It’s stable (wind power costs don’t fluctuate with the price of fuel).

#8 It’s efficient (small wind turbines are suitable for many homes).

#9 It’s the worlds fastest growing energy source (an estimated30% growth per year).

One last thing, and a word of warning, yes wind power is suitable for many homes, but before you start rushing off and constructing your own wind turbine you have got to take into account possible noise, visual impact, and other conservation issues. Also you may have to apply for planning permission from your local authorities before you add wind power to your home.

Your cottage, farm or even city home can be lighted with electricity generated by the wind.Even if you are far from a power line you need not be without power.Wind power is also one of the green forms of energy generation which does no harm to our environment. It is in fact probably the cleanest form of power generation which can be harnessed at reasonable cost.Solar energy is also very “clean” but solar panels are costly and have low power output.

Commercially made wind power plants are available but are quite costly. The simple solution to this problem is to build your own wind power generator. If you have room on your property you could build several units for the price of one commercial unit.If you generate more power than you need you can sell the excess to your electricity company in many areas now.

This wind power generator which can be built from plans is the lowest cost unit which you will find anywhere. Our review of the others shows that they cost much more. This machine is built from new or used auto parts and a few odds and ends.It generates as much power as the more expensive alternatives.Building one of these generators is also much simpler. It is very reliable and will work for years with only routine servicing.

Some people think that you need to have powerful winds blowing most of the time to generate much electric power.Nothing could be further from the truth.Light winds or breezes do generate power which you can store in storage batteries.

Wind power was very popular in the 1930 to 1950 period. It was used by many people to generate power or to pump water from a well.People were very cost concious in those harder times.Nowadays,in these days of abundance, most people have lost this necessity to keep cost to a minimum and are quite happy to pay the power company every month.

A new age of wind power is now upon us when the necessity is to produce “green” power which does no harm to our environment. Many areas in the USA and elsewhere now have large scale wind power generation plants in operation and many more are scheduled to be built.

Small wind turbine generators are the shape of things to come. Many consumers are now installing them to generate at least part of the power they consume. If you live far from a power line of course your own power plant is the only way to go.

The average home workshopper can easily build a wind power generator using just simple tools and used auto parts. It will turn out as much power as an expensive commercial wind turbine. You can build several for the cost of one commercial model. If you generate more power than you use you can sell it to the power company in many areas. Now is the time to build your own wind power turbine genretrator.

Wind power to produce electricity accounts for only 1% of worldwide electricity usage, but it accounts for 19% of the total electricity used in Denmark, 9% in Spain and Portugal, 6% in Germany. The United States lags far behind other countries in harvesting the power of the wind to produce residential energy.

Wind energy is considered by many experts to be the cleanest and most environmentally friendly natural energy source. Wind genwind powerrgy produces no harmful greenhouse gas emissions like that of fossil fuel derived energy.

The modern wind power industry began in 1979 with the serial production of wind turbines by several Danish manufacturers. These early turbines were small by today’s standards, with capacities of 20 to 30 kW each. Since then, they have increased greatly in size, while wind turbine production has expanded to many countries all over the world.

The state of Oklahoma is playing a significant role bringing wind produced electricity into more widespread use. During the course of the next 5 years utility companies in Oklahoma plan to dramatically increase the amount of power generated by wind farms. The University of Oklahoma plans to purchase 100% of its electricity from wind power by 2013 through an agreement with Oklahoma Gas & Electric. Plans for a 100 MW wind farm are being developed to help the university achieve it’s goal.

Get Best Make Solar Panel and Make Wind Turbine Guide

More homeowners today are interested in alternative energy sources than ever before. As energy costs continue to skyrocket, more people are exploring their options when it comes to producing energy for home use. Wind powered generators and solar panel energy systems are becoming increasingly more popular for home use.

Gus Sansone, a homeowner in California, installed a wind turbine on his property back in August of 2001. Mr. Sansome reports “After investigating my options, I determined that installing a 10 kW small wind turbine was my best power supply choice. My Southern Chome made wind millectricity bills used to average about a hundred bucks per month. But after installing my new renewable energy power plant in August of 2001, I have not had to pay an Edison bill for an entire year!”

Building a home made wind mill is far easier than most people believe. Using only simple power tools, anyone with average mechanical ability can build their own system. Producing homemade energy is now within the reach of all homeowners concerned with the unstable energy costs we all face in today’s world.

An increasing number of people prefer alternative sources of energy these days. Wind power is perhaps the most extensively used among all the renewable sources of energy. It has also become very economical and practical option to build a homemade windmill these days. A typical do it yourself or DIY windmill can help you save substantial amounts of money on energy bills over a period of time. DIY wind power is also the best option if you are serious about contributing towards the betterment of the environment.

The best thing about DIY wind power is that you need not spend a fortune building a windmill. You need not have miles of land or loads of money to build one. All that you need are the necessary equipment coupled with the knowledge to assemble the various different parts. There are many online guides available nowadays which can help you with the whole process of building your own windmill.

The first step in the entire process involves choosing a location to build your own windmill. The location should be such that there is free access to wind currents. One need not live in a wind tunnel to generate wind power though. Some amount of wind, on a consistent basis, throughout the year is what you should look for. You can choose from either wooden or aluminum when it comes to the material of the windmill. This said though, a vast majority of people these days prefer aluminum over wood because of the durability factor.

An increasing number of people are switching over to DIY wind power these days. They offer the best way to tackle all the problems caused by rising levels of pollution around the world.

Wind power is the route to the future. Several areas of the country that are experimenting with the manufacture of wind farms are discovering that they are more then able to preserve sufficient amounts of wind generated electricity to sustain the amount required for that area. Of course, it must be noted that the wind generators do not impart all the electrical energy needed, but merely supplement the commercial plants in their tasks to do so.

Even when you consider that it does not account for all electrical usage, it still manages to save sizeable quantities of money when used in combination with commercial electric plants. If you are able to only cut your expense in half that alone is a tremendous savings.

You see, wind power is not something new. In fact, it has been around for a long time. Farms in the Midwest (where the wind is robust and forceful) have productively used these techniques for many years. They were predominantly used for pumping water or for occasionally providing lighting for homes.

For years, America has avoided the major use of wind generators, but due to the upcoming energy crunch, we are now witnessing a vast growth in state sponsored wind generator farms. This is good for not only the consumer, but also for the environment. Wind generated electricity is clean and does not damage the eco-system.

It is totally conceivable that you as a homeowner could install a small version of a wind generator on your property and experience first hand some of the monetary savings that you would experience by its use. If this idea appeals to you, your next step is to get a blueprint to help you build your own wind generator.

Using Wind Turbines to Power Your Home

The first thing to look at, before you ever consider converting to wind power, is the area where you live. A windmill solution obviously requires wind. More specifically you want wind speeds that exceed 8MPH on average. Even 8MPH is considered a low-wind-speed area for wind turbines. 12MPH average is ideal.

To start, take the time to look at the wind speed charts that fit your area:

If You Live in the USA: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/online/ccd/wndspd.txt

If You Live in Canada: http://www.wunderground.com/global/Region/CN/WindSpeed.html

If You Live in the UK or Europe: http://www.xcweather.co.uk

If you live in Australia: http://www.wunderground.com/global/Region/AU/WindSpeed.html

Assuming that the average wind speed in your area is above 8MPH, then continue on to the other considerations listed below. If you don’t live in a suitable area, then you should consider a solar power conversion instead.
Convert Your Home Today:

Wind Turbine Considerations

Once you’ve determined that wind power is suitable for your area there are a few other things you need to consider. Really this is just about asking some questions and then answering them. Taking the time to do so will ensure you choose a wind power system that fits. Especially if you are planning to live off the grid, you should take the time to answer these questions before you start.
Your Power Needs

The first thing that needs to be considered is your power needs. Are you simply looking to reduce your power bill with a single small windmill? Or, will you want to power your entire home?
If you’re looking to power your whole home, you should take the time to calculate your actual power requirements. If you take the time to download Earth 4 Energy, their guide comes with a calculator and instructions on how to do this (you’ll need this guide anyway).

Storing Power from Wind Turbines

From the answer to your first question you then need to consider building a storage system for your wind turbine. A simple array of batteries can be designed to store as little or as much power as needed.
If you’re only building a small wind power solution to reduce your power bills then this is likely less of a concern.
On the other hand if you’re looking to live off the grid, you will need to consider energy storage. You should use your calculation for your power needs to design this part of your system. Take into consideration how much power you will need to store and for how long.
If you have weeks where there is less wind than usual, ensure that you have a large enough battery array to compensate (or better yet work to reduce you energy needs by using high efficiency bulbs and appliances).
Having a Backup Plan

Finally, for those who plan to live entirely off the grid, you should consider your backup plan. For most of us consistent power is a requirement. Ensure that you design your wind turbine solution with a backup plan. Generally a small gas generator is enough to ensure you have power if something goes wrong.

If you are interested to know how to build your own wind power generators, don’t worry; you have arrived at the right place. You can build your own wind power generators at home and for this you do not require any proficiency in any field. It is quite simple and you can build wind power generators below $200, however if you purchase the equipment from market, it will cost you around $2000.

Wind provides us a renewable source of energy and therefore the energy or the electricity available to us from wind is almost free. We require only an initial investment of $200 and thereafter a nominal maintenance is required and we can generate electricity continuously and of course the amount of electricity generated depends on the wind speed.

People are generating electricity from wind and are saving up to 70 percent of their electricity bills per month and every month. If you live in a windy area and your electricity consumption is less, you can even generate surplus electricity from your wind power generators installed in your backyard. Electricity companies are ready to purchase this surplus electricity, as this is far better than the electricity produced from non-renewable sources of energy such as coal, diesel and gas.

You can build your own wind power generators and you will require a few items such as blades, a tower, a battery, a DC motor and a tail. DC motor should be carefully selected as it is the costliest among all other items and most importantly you should go for quality blades. You can get all these items from a nearby store; however a few items you can make yourself at your home. The next and most important part of building your generator is to assemble them and here you will need a guide.
